The Case for Grinding Beans the Night Before

Every coffee forum will tell you pre-ground beans are basically stale by morning. In a sealed, opaque container, the difference is smaller than people admit. I ran a blind taste test with my partner across five mornings, three cups from beans ground the night before, two from beans ground fresh, and neither of us could reliably tell which was which.

What actually matters more is the container. Ground coffee left in a paper bag with the top rolled down loses aroma fast. The same grounds in an airtight jar hold up fine for about 24 hours.

If mornings are chaos, grind the night before and stop feeling guilty about it.
